Day 1 - Arrival
Meeting at Zvartnots international airport. Transfer to the hotel. Rest.
Day 2 - City Tour
Breakfast at the hotel. We begin our acquaintance with one of the oldest cities in the world – the pink city of Yerevan. The city is located on the left bank of the Hrazdan river, away from the Ararat valley. It is impossible to imagine Yerevan without the famous Opera and ballet Theater, Republic square with its colorful fountains and government buildings. Mount Ararat is an integral part of Yerevan. Visit Matenadaran Depository – a unique institution around the world protecting thousands of valuable manuscripts. Visit Tsitsernakaberd Hill and the Genocide Musuem, devoted to the massacre of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire in 1915. Overnight in a hotel in Yerevan.
Day 3 - Yerevan / Echmiadzin / Zvartnots / Yerevan
Breakfast at the hotel. We begin acquaintance with the spiritual Armenia at the very origins of Christianity – Etchmiadzin with the Cathedral (UNESCO), with the churches of Saint Gayane (UNESCO), Saint Hripsime (UNESCO). Throughout its history, Holy Etchmiadzin was not only the religious center of Armenia and managed vast estates, but also a place where the miraculous relics of the Armenian Church and rich gifts received from all over the Armenian world were stored. On your return to Yerevan, visit Zvartnots temple (7th century, UNESCO). Next, we will try the real Armenian cognac at the Yerevan brandy factory. Armenian cognac literally conquered Winston Churchill in 1943. This well-known expert and connoisseur of alcohol recommended Smoking Havana cigars, never being late for dinner and drinking Armenian cognac. Overnight in a hotel in Yerevan.
Day 4 - Yerevan / Khor Virap / Areni / Noravank / Goris
Breakfast at the hotel. We start the tour with a visit to the 17th-century monastery of Khor Virap, which is famous for its deep dungeon, where the first Armenian Catholicos spent 13 years of imprisonment. Drive to the village of Areni with a stop at the winery. In this village you can see the world’s oldest winery. Then visit the magnificent Noravank monastery, where the road leads through high picturesque rocks. Continue driving to Goris town. Overnight in a hotel in Goris.
Day 5 - Goris / Khndzoresk / Tatev / Karahunj / Yerevan
Breakfast at the hotel. The tour will start with a trip to the 19th-century Khndzoresk cave town. The hanging bridge heading to picturesque rock formations and gently inviting nature makes this place one of Armenia’s most popular sites. After you will head to Halidzor village, from where you’ll take the world’s longest aerial tramway (5,7 km) “Wings of Tatev” which stretches over the Vorotan River gorge to the monastery of Tatev. Aside from serving as a religious and educational center, this spectacularly situated complex was an important strategic stronghold for the medieval Syunik kingdom and impregnable for being located on a high basalt plateau above the Vorotan River Gorge. Our next stop will be the Karahunj. The megalithic complex Karahunj is located on the rugged plateau near Sisian. It is believed to be one of the oldest observatories in the world, according to some enthusiastic archaeologists. Also known as Zorats Karer, Karahunj is a huge complex dating back to the Bronze Age, which includes enormous and unique megalithic structures, more specifically graves and more than 220 menhirs (menhirs are tall upright stones). Drive back to Yerevan. Overnight in a hotel in Yerevan.
Day 6 - Yerevan / Sevan / Dilijan / Yerevan
Breakfast at the hotel. Drive to Sevan Lake: the highest lake in the world with the height of 1900 meters above the sea level. Excursion to Dilijan: a small paradise in Armenia. Sharambeyan Street the well preserved “Old Town”. Visit to Haghartsin Monastery: it is a 13th century monastery complex with several churches. Overnight in a hotel in Yerevan.
Day 7 - Yerevan / Garni / Geghard / Yerevan
Breakfast at the hotel. The tour starts in the Kotayk region. Passing through beautiful landscapes, we will visit the pagan temple of Garni, which proudly took its place on the top of the Azat river gorge and is the only preserved example of the pagan era. The UNESCO world heritage Christian monastery complex Geghard is a 15-minute drive away. The monastery became famous for its relics, among which the most important is the spear used to wound Christ on the cross. Overnight in a hotel in Yerevan.
Day 8 - Departure
Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to the airport. Return back to home impressed.
